I responded to the person in this thread pointing out that the memory they were using is not listed as compatible. I am well aware of what people are saying and the difficulties they have, however to state that the motherboards do not work with 32GB is incorrect as both mine do. No clever hacks, no voltage adjustments, no customers firmware, no liquid cooling. So what have I done that magically works? Nothing apart from buying memory that the memory manufacturer has stated as compatible. I had issues with the hack being stable with 16gb but moving to Clover seems to have cured that. Both are used 24/7, one is a VMWARE ESXI server, the other my main development machine. I have two Gigabyte Motherboards, a z87x ud3 and a Z97x ud5h. I should simply have swapped it from the beginning and avoided the hassle. I wasted almost 18 months with the wrong MB. You can spend countless hours and days trying to research and fix this, or you can get another board instead. Number of freezes and issues since then? None! I chose an ASUS Z97X Maximus VII Ranger as a replacement, and after spending 2 hours swapping cards (it´s pretty simple if you take it slowly and methodically) and another 2-3 hours changing a few settings, everything is now running smoothly. (FYI Gigabyte hasn´t commented on nor come up with a fix for this issue, which should tell you that a permanent fix for this is not on the horizon.) IMO there is only ONE solution that will fix this: Get another motherboard!Īnd I suggest you do NOT pick one from Gigabyte. I still ended up with a freezing computer and countless hours of frustration. I have tried them all, and in the end NONE of them worked for me. There have been many suggestions and "fixes", including a couple on this board.Īll of them include retiming of the RAM sticks and/or changing the RAM voltage. Just google "Gigabyte Z87 RAM issue" and you´ll find multiple links on the issue, including here and on Gigabyte´s own forum. There are MANY people out there who have had issues like yours. It simply can´t work with 4 sticks of RAM - even though it´s designed for it. Well, "no reason" turned out to be a widespread problem with many Gigabyte Z87 motherboards: It would freeze up 5-10 times a day for no reason. Building a CustoMac Hackintosh: Buyer's GuideįYI I have had a LOT of problems with my Gigabyte Z87X-OC board. ![]()
